Final Thoughts

I thought I’d take a few lines to add some thoughts to what Steve said in the intro.

It’s really hard to believe we’re publishing our 2nd Anniversary edition. Who would have thought that three years ago Steve, Denny, and I would re-unite through another web site. We spent some time together through Emails re-living our times at RAF Upper Heyford, England. Suddenly we thought about getting the “Posse” (Det 2 40th ARRWg) back together. From there we expanded to the entire 40th ARRWg  of EAARC. All of a sudden, we were getting contacts like you wouldn’t believe. Now look at our group!!!! We’re not an organization to which you pay dues and have membership. We’re just a bunch of old pilots, crew chiefs, firefighters, medics, and the list goes on & on who just tell stories and bring back fond memories of our youth.

I had no idea how to set up, let alone manage a web site (Hell, I’m still not sure of what I’m doing!!!!). But it’s been a GREAT ride. Steve and I have enjoyed sharing with you all the stories that have been sent and we look forward to many more issues of the Pedro News.

The HH-43 community was just a small portion of the history of the USAF and because we were so small, many in the media have either forgotten about us or never really knew we existed. That’s why you never see much about us on the various documentaries. Steve and I have tried on many occasions to contact The History Channel, Discovery Wings and several others to plead our case but we continue to look at closed doors. It’s up to us to keep the memory of this fine group of flyers alive. We’re all that’s left and by sharing stories with each other through this news letter we can at least keep our dream alive. We can only hope that maybe some day someone will stumble across this web site, see what we’re about, and let the general public know we existed and what we did.

Steve and I pledge to you to continue to provide fun and interesting newsletters for you for as long as we can. You can do your part by continuing to send us stories. We are looking especially for stories about missions that occurred in Europe. SEA stories are always being sent to us but we have a real lack of stories from both Europe and the US.

So anything you can come up with will be appreciated.

Hope you enjoyed this edition and as always, your comments are welcome.

Paul
