A three year old child with a hairpin lodged in her trachea was Medivaced to a Medical Facility by an HH-43B crew from DET5 40ARRW at Hahn AB, GE during a night flight over mountainous territory.

An 11 year old boy, who accidentally shot himself in the throat while hunting, was evacuated by an HH-43 crew from DET16 WARC Williams AFB, AZ.  The landing was made on the side of a hill in a small clearing surrounded large shrubs and boulders. Once the patient was placed in the HUSKIE, a downwind marginal excess power takeoff was made from the hill and the helicopter headed for the hospital.

The life of a seriously ill pregnant woman was saved by an HH-43B crew from DET10 40ARRW, Aviano AB, Italy. The woman, a military dependent, was Medivaced to a hospital at Vicenza. Doctors at the hospital credited the time saving flight with saving the woman’s life.

Wounded crewmen from a Republic of Korea Navy Destroyer operating in the Yellow Sea were evacuated by two HH-43B crews from DET9 41ARRW, Osan AB, ROK. A Pararescueman was lowered to the Destroyer’s deck and prepared the wounded sailors for hoisting. To pick up the four men and the PJ, it was necessary for the HH-43s to hover in a 20 knot cross wind over a pitching deck.
