INTRODUCTION

Halfway through our second year, I was sitting here day dreaming about how lucky I was to be an Aircrew member on the H-43. Less than three percent of USAF enlisted members fly and under one percent of Firefighters were (ABR) Airborne Rescuemen. I must admit that my 5 years in the Air Rescue Service were the most satisfying and exciting part of my career.

In this edition we’ll review the first “feet dry” helicopter rescue in North Vietnam, read about another PEDRO crewmember earning the AF CROSS and hear what it feels like to be left at a crash scene, unarmed, surrounded by villagers and watch your ride fly off. These are just a few of the things this issue has to offer, so let’s get to it.
