At 11:30L the Phu Cat Primary Crash Phone rang to report that an F-100

had reported an illuminated FIRE WARNING light shortly after take-off.

MISTY 06 made a closed pattern, salvoed its ordinance and prepared to land with fire streaming from the engine compartment. The F-100 made a successful landing and rolled to a stop at the departure end of the Runway.

PEDRO 22 scrambled and was on-scene at 11:32L. The FSK was deployed; the ABRs and the MT then deplaned. An immediate attack was made on the fire which had engulfed the engine compartment and rear area beneath the aircraft. Fire extinguishment was achieved prior to arrival of the Fire Department Crash Trucks.

The Aeromedical Tech (MT) located MISTY 06’s uninjured pilot who had egressed the burning aircraft after engine shut-down prior to PEDRO 22’s arrival.
